Farm Blog:â â
Morning all. How nice have the last few days been? We really needed to dry out after a very wet Farm Stand on Sunday and just sooo much rain in general. All in all, we have weathered the weather but all of this moisture, humidity and then heat has taken a toll on some of our crops. Each new growing season comes with its own set of challenges, some we have seen before and sometimes new ones. Our late Tomatoes have suffered a little, but should hopefully still produce a decent crop to wrap the season. We have seen our Herbs get effected with powdery mildew which I donât typically see.. Last but not least we have also seen an increasing Rabbit population.. they seem to love our Bean plants amongst other thingsâĶ Never a dull moment on the Farm thatâs for sure.
A couple of extra things to mention for this week. We will not have any Lettuce this week sorry.. As I mentioned in numerous blogs and in person, demand for our Lettuce has spiked big time this season and it has been difficult to keep ahead of it.. However, we will have a beautiful mix available for next week though, just in time for Labor Weekend. It has also been a busy time loading up beds with Fall crops which is exciting because it is like a second summer. Once these crops mature we will see more Dino Kale, Collards, Swiss Chard, Bok Choy, Turnips, Red Radishes, Broccolini, Cauliflower, Fresh Ginger, Spinach, Scallions and more!
Thatâs all for now and thanks again to everyone new and old that keeps showing up and supporting us! We love being part of your week and its a privilege to grow food for you.
Take care and have a great wrap up to the week.
Dan and Kathleen.
